I have a strange issue which is proving to be hard (for me) to fix;

Acer X1400 series SFF presented by customer with loss of wired network connectivity.

The onboard Ethernet adapter shows connection and activity lights when viewed from the rear but is missing in network connections and in device manager!

scanned for malware, used system restore and finally saved data and restored to factory image, still the same result. Viewing 'hidden devices' in device manager reveals lots of WANminiports but nothing that can have a new driver installed.

Tried manual install of driver from Acer driver disk, checked BIOS to see if onboard eth disabled (it is enabled) upgraded BIOS from Acer site.

Win 7 diagnostics says that the eth driver is missing but also there is no Ethernet adapter!!!

I may be excluding the obvious failed onboard NIC just because I have hardly ever seen this in many years especially on a 12mth old pc! there again it is an AMD with NVidia chipset so I guess anything is possible ;-)
