First of all people, if you want 6.2.2, you NEED 6.2.1. Not being able to get 6.2.1 is a completely different issue. Now on 6.2.2, for NEF users on OSX, still same crap as before. Insaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanly slow and painfull. Even a folder with just 40 NEFs, takes close to a minute to load up on a 1ghz G4 with 1GB mem. Cacheing turned off, turned on, it doesn't matter worth squat, same response. I don't remember what the last version was that was fast and normal atleast on thumbnails. I think whatever Nikon view version I had to upgrade to along with Nikon Capture 4.1, broke everything.
Try this, pick one picture in the thumbnail view, Delete it, and watch the app hang for a good minute!! What the HELL Nikon???? The program is so incredibly slow it makes me want to kick something after 5 minutes! The installation also put the NEF plugin back into Photoshop CS, which also takes up to a minute to load a NEF, whereas the builtin NEF plugin of Photoshop CS was just fine by me, it even gave you more pre-load control on the image! What the heck man!? Does Nikon QA this crap?? So many people here are saying it's slow, and they don't have a decent feedback mechanism on their own site, or through the application!
Nikon capture 4.1 also has bugs, if you decide to use the 'MultiImage' crap feature (because nikon view is almost useless). When you do that and turn on the Thumbnail view in Nikon Capture, the application window doesn't graphically update correctly half the time. Try turning on/off the 'shooting data' field and watch it not show/update half the time. Then you get scroll bars on the side of the image, but you cant scroll it. It's Absolute Crap!
FIX IT! PLEASE!! Nikon view 5 (or whatever) was way faster and worked fine!
Oh yes and another thing, you if you use DEE on a picture, and that picture happen to be one in your thumbnails in Nikon view, put aside another extra minute JUST BECAUSE OF THAT ONE PICTURE!@*&#^

I know you're aksing why I use FreePhotoConverter to shrink my files and strip them of any info, but at least Preview is able to open them and see them - I like this shrinking app because it's quick and easy, and simple.Even the Canon Imagebrowser is able to see the shrunken images, even create thumbnails for them - with EXIF files from my D100 camera, NikonView is able to open them up in a hurry - I guess it's a lot more proprietary than the others. I wish it would do at least as much as the Canon's

There are limits to iPhoto and limits to Nikon View. Neither is perfect and neither are stand alone products for some users IMHO. I use neither very often but know those who do so looked at this newest 6.2.x version. Nikon users have already indirectly paid for it so I'd at least kick the tires. Version 6 is thankfully not the klutz that 3, 4, and 5 were.

Only use this program for its slideshow and 'send e-mail' features. Since I use 9.2.2, no iPhoto alternative available. Had to boost memory allocation to 80000k to avoid crashes/freeze when loading pic thumbnails. Photo Editor memory allocation is set by Nikon at 135000K! Useless. Photoshop is the way. One new feature is 'sending e-mail'. Sizes down images and loads to E-mail program easily. 2 stars due to inefficent screen layout and program mechanics. Nikon ought to attend iPhoto school and get it right!
